Country Chic

Quickly becoming a favorite of mine in the fashion world as of late is the modified shabby chic or "counrty chic" look. You know the cute, but you-have-to-have-a-place-to-wear-it, kind of look? That's how country chic was for me, but there are ways to modify it so that you can carry some shabby chicness around with you in any ol outfit :-)

So what is shabby chic or country chic? For me it consists of 4 elements of which can be mixed and matched to create as much or as little country as you would like....Lets break it down.

1. Florals
2. Boots
3. Light Denim
4. Dresses

Florals. You have to be careful with florals because it's the patterns and colors of them that can change the look and feel of your outfit. For a country chic look try to stay with muted versions of your favorite colors and smaller prints. This is to me, a very country chic floral:
Boots. Of course a cute (and well placed/appropraite) cowboy boot is an obvious go-to, but you can modify it so that is doesn't scream country girl (not that there is anything wrong with that)  :-) Heres two of my favs

Light Denim. This easy, broken-in look can easily be taken down the "country route" but it also just gets very popular in the summer because its light and breezy as shorts or jeans.

Dresses. Many of the country chic floral patterns are going to look gorgeous in dress form (see pic in floral). You also can do a sweet strapless denim dress, or a eyelet lace summer dress and make them effortlessly shabby chic.

I will definitely be trying some of these shabby chic looks this summer and hope you do too!

My Chic of the Week is fun patterned shoes. With all the bright colors out there for spring, mixing in some fun patterns on your feet is just what the (fashion) doctor ordered! Take a peek at these wedges and pretty flats in their respective patterns. Perfect for a sunny day stroll or a night out.

Have fun mixing patterns and colors, and don't be afraid to go bold!

The Last Touch

Whew it has been awhile! Sorry about the hiatus but its been a little busy around here :-)

Anyway, today I want to talk about one of my favorite things...Accessories <3 (eh also fall into this category)

From bangles to sunglasses, the last touch on your outfit can really pull the whole thing together, or in some cases make you really stand out. Something to always keep in mind when it comes to your sense of fashion is the accessories. Jeans and a white T with a cute cardi or a leather jacket will always be a good go to look, but to change it up a little you need some stellar accessories. Its a fine line between gawdy and gorgeous that you walk when looking into interesting yet different pieces to accent your outfits.

My rule of thumb is to take one thing off before you leave. When it comes down to it, simplicity can speak volumes. If your look is pretty simple, then bling up your jewelry but if you already have a lot going on, try to have simple and understated jewels. For example if you are wearing a scarf, go with studs for earrings so they aren't competing for attention. Or if you want long dangling earrings wear a simple necklace. Here are some faves of mine.

Eye catching earrings
Build an outfit around it
The most important thing, have fun with it!

Put a Spring in your Step..My Chic of the Week

I post a lot of high heels on here because honestly, I just love them. Heels give me the height that I was not genetically blessed with and the add glamor to what could otherwise be a boring outfit. However, I do have a special spot in my heart for the adorable flats. Ballets, open-toed, or the new city flats can really make an outfit with out making you uncomfortable. This Spring there are a lot of flats out in bright hues and in fun patterns that can make a dress and tights absolutely adorable, and jeans and a t-shirt fresh but feminine. Here are some of my favorites:
Pretty Bow Flats
City Flats
Bright Colors

If comforts your #1 in fashion then fun, fresh and feminine flats are just for you! Its easy to see why I choose this shoe for this weeks Chic of the Week. Enjoy!

Crazy Stripes and Brights

O.K. folks...I looove all the color we are seeing! Neon lights and brights are everywhere!

Now don't get me wrong, I have a mad love affair with my basic black. I wear this color more than any other, especially for work. However, it can get boring and overdone. I have written before about adding pops of color and the enormous impact that can have on your outfit, but those are baby steps and I love that this spring and summer is all about jumping right into the neon colored pool.
Take a chance! Not everyone can pull off the bright yellow (sometimes it won't mesh with your skin tone and you can look jaundice) but play up the other brights that are all over this season. Here are the basic neon hues that are gracing us this year: Pink (both Hot Pink and Fuschia) Orange (Tangerine!) Yellow (Caution Sign yellow lol) Blue (one of my new loves) and Green (I even saw some bright green jeggings..might not pull that off) Which ever your color, just go for it! Heres a tip. If brights scare you, try integrating them in with another hot trend this year: stripes. For example Gap has this adorable and versatile top that can be dressed up or down.
So how easy is that? Not so scary right? :-)

As I said before stripes are also being seen everywhere, and its not just in the neons. Nautical stripes are easy "ready wears" that you can pair with anything at anytime. Try stripes in muted grays, blues, blacks, or reds. Mixing patterns can be cute too, just don't go crazy.

Chic of the Week

April January. Spring is coming!...and actually it feels like its been here for awhile, with all the rain instead of snow. It has inspired my Chic of the Week...Chic Wellies! I have a soft spot for rain boots. They are so much fun and come in so many cute patterns and colors. Pair them with a simple trench coat and you are Spring ready :-)

Blazing the Trail

One of my favorite fashion pieces is the blazer. The blazer is very versatile and can make any outfit a little more chic. Layering pieces to vary up your wardrobe is a simple step to take, and adding a jacket or blazer is a perfect finishing touch. Blazers can dress up jeans, look sophisticated with dress pants, and make a dress a little more layered and chic. One of the reason I love to wear blazers is because its still a way to look professional while not losing your youth. Check out a couple of these looks.

So there are many ways you can blaze the trail with some lovely blazers. I love the different colored blazers that are out now, they put a punch of color in any outfit and are so much fun to pair with dress pants.
The one no-no with blazers, I must say, is shoulder pads. A little bit of one to give shape is alright, but lets not revisit the eighties with football size shoulder pads. :-)

Its My Party..

Its that time of the year again! My birthday! and in the spirit of celebration, I am going to post a few of my favorite party dresses. If I could, I would wear a dress everyday and just because its my birthday, dresses is all I'm posting about :-) My favorite thing to do is the unexpected. If its your birthday, then you want to stand out, right? right. No matter what you do or who you are with on your special day, you want to look fabu..heres some ideas.

Lunch with the girls: stay flirty and fun with a cute sleeved dress. Its nice and modest and would be just as beautiful with a pair of flats:
Out for the dinner with someone special, stay classy and elegant:
Partying it up on the town? do a fun, funky one shoulder with some eye catching detail:

And there you are, three very different but equally cute dresses to try out on your birthday. I will post pics of my own party dress soon. Til then, <3 B

Very Vintage

One fashion obsession of mine is Vintage. My whole wedding was based around the style and feel of vintage and the best part about it? You can mix it up with modern elements and constantly change and play with your look. What I mostly try to do with my style is not overwhelm my look in one era of fashion. For example, I love the 1920s, 40s, and 50s so I may pull some inspiration of all or one ear into my outfit. Feather accessories and colorful tights are making a refurbished comeback from the 20s and so are the collared and printed dresses from the 40s and 50s, mix and match some of these pieces and you have a fresh en vogue look that is completely your own.<3
